The historical Usuki Sempei of Oita Prefecture is a traditional confectionery that is said to have originated as a portable food for the traveling party during the Edo period.
It is still handmade using the traditional method of hand-applying ginger and sugar one by one with a brush.
In this plan, you can experience the hand-painting of mortar and pestle rice crackers♪
The experience includes the process of applying sugar and ginger in a ring (by hand) to unglazed rice crackers.
Hand painting with a brush is surprisingly difficult and requires a knack for it!
Our skilled staff will teach you how to make your own mortar and pestle rice crackers.
The hand-painted rice crackers can be eaten on the spot or taken home as a souvenir.

Mortar and pestle rice crackers, which are originally made into products, are dried slowly overnight after being hand-painted, so the texture may differ from the rice crackers made during the experience, depending on the condition and time of year. Please look forward to seeing what the texture will be like on the day of your experience.
